Follow the story: Adrian Glebocki was a gifted painter who believed that art holds real power—the kind of power to open up new worlds. Here we see him with his children making paper cut-outs in front of some of his works-in-progress. While playing with their paper creatures, his sons couldn’t help but notice their father mumbling in a strange language. Lately he had become aloof, spending more and more time alone in his studio and reading thick books taken from dusty corners of the library. Their mother assured them he would be back to normal soon, once the upcoming exhibition passed. They were not so sure, and after this afternoon, they knew the truth.
Artist Biography: Adrian Glebocki (1833 – 1905) was a Polish painter, lithographer, and teacher. While his art spanned different subjects, he is perhaps best remembered for his architectural sketches and watercolors, which document buildings from the 19th century, many of which longer exist. This painting, a self-portrait with his children, was digitally edited by artist Ryan Doan for Puzzles of Doom.
